Wet Cyanotype Workshop

  • Neat Film Lab 915 9 Avenue Southeast Calgary, AB, T2G 0S5 Canada (map)

Cyanotype photography is a camera-less technique that involves laying an object or negative on paper coated with a solution of iron salts before exposing it to UV light and washing with water to create stunning white and Prussian blue images. Cyanotype is one of the first photographic processes ever developed.

Wet cyanotype is a variation of the cyanotype process where wet elements are introduced during the development of the print, creating unique textures, colors, and effects. Unlike traditional cyanotype, which relies on a dry sensitized surface, wet cyanotype involves manipulating the print while the chemicals are still wet, resulting in unpredictable and serendipitous outcomes.

In this 3 hour, hand-on workshop, we will be creating cyanotype photograms, made by arranging objects on the cyanotype sensitized paper. After learning about the history of the cyanotype, we will head out to forage for local flora to use for our photograms. You are welcome to bring your own objects to use as well. You will design, expose, and fix in water your own cyanotypes.

Only 6 spots available per workshop. This class is good for ages 12+.

$60.00 + GST | We will send you an invoice to confirm the booking.
